Readers Journal #14 The Secret Identity Of Devon Delaney-By:Lauren Barnholdt-November 28,2011

Dear Mrs.Zrihen,

I just finished reading the book THE SECRET IDENTITY OF DEVON DELANEY By Lauren Barnholdt. I picket this book because one of my friends recommended this book to me and it seemed nice. The significance of the book is to never lie, you always have to be truthful to your friends and family. The two strategies i used before reading was i asked myself what do i already know from the book, well i knew from the cover and the synopsis that its about being truthful because i read that a girl name Devon lied to her whole school, the second strategy i used was i predicted whats gonna happen in the end, well most books end with good endings so i thought everyone forgives her. The two reading strategies i used during reading was i went back to some pages to see how many lies she made and made up, the second strategy was i looked at the cover and i thought to myself that it didn't really made sense to the story because it shows her rejection what she wears so  at first i thought its like about a popular girl who being mean to everyone. The two reading strategies i used after reading was i asked myself what did i understand from the book, well i understood that its about not lieing and to always stay truthful, the second strategy i used was i looked through the book for some text features and new vocabulary.

The genre of this book is realistic fiction. The characters of this book is Jared-her "boyfriend", Lexi- her best friend, Devon- the main girl. Devon's mom , Devon's dad, Lexi and Jared's friends. The setting is Devon's house, the school, and Jared's house. The exposition is Devon, Lexi, Jared, the mom and dad, and Jared's Friends also the place is the school, Devon's and Jared's house. The rising action is when Devon lies to Lexi in the summer because she met her while she was at her grandmas and Devon told her that she is so popular at her hometown and she is the popularist kid at school, and then Lexi surprised Devon by coming to her new school and then Devon was like to herself OH NOOO!!! SHES GONNA FIND OUT THE TRUTH. The climax is that Lexi started getting weird about stuff like she didn't understand why is Devon acting like this weird. The falling action is when Lexi and the rest found out about everything , every single lie, so she got so mad. The resolution is when she forgives her and also everyone else and they promised each other never to lie again. The conflict of this book is when Devon lies about so much stuff to her best friend Lexi-character vs. society.

The tone of this book is scared , happy, and sad. The mood is happy, disappointed, and scared. The theme of this book is not to lie, and to be truthful to everyone around you. The moral of this book to never lie and to be truthful. The point of view is 1st person and 3rd person. The pattern of organization is compare and contrast. The authors perspective is the authors, and Devon's. The authors purpose is to entertain.

I think this book was okay, some of the chapters were really boring but i kind of like it because it was a little entertaining.I rate this book 6/10 because it was kind of boring and i didn't like it much. i wouldn't recommend this to any of my friends because i know they will think it's boring.I don't have any similarities with the characters because they are really different from me.

                                                            Sincerely,

Readers Journal #13 The Year We Disappeared-By:Cylin Busby&John Busby-November 22,2011

Dear Mrs.Zrihen,

I just finished the book THE YEAR WE DISAPPEARED By Cylin Busby&John Busby. I picked this book because i had to read a memoir and because it looked interesting and seemed nice. The significance of the book is to always be kind and respect your family because there the ones who care about you and don't want you your to get hurt. The two reading strategies i used before reading were i asked myself what do i understand from the cover and the synopsis i understanded that because someone shot John it would be just a matter of time till the shooter would come after John again so they had to stop contact friends and family, the second strategy is i predicted whats gonna happen from the cover and the synopsis, like i thought they got kidnapped from someone and couldn't see their family again till someone found them but my prediction was wrong. The two reading strategies i used during the time i was reading was i went back to some pages to understand more what was going on i went to Johns prospective chapter to understood what he felt that time, the second strategy was i looked through the book for pictures and i saw a Cylin sitting on the ground and John's ID. The two strategies i used after reading were i asked myself what did i understand from the book...well understood that John got out of the hospital and had to stop contact family and friends and was always guarded 24-7 and after a couple of months they had to disappears and move, the second strategy i used was i looked through the book for some text features and new vocabulary.

The genre of this book is memoir. The characters of the book are Cylin-the little 9 year old girl, Erik cylin's brother, Shawn- Cylin's and Erik's brother, Kelly- The 3 kids Babysitter, Polly-The kids Mom, John- The dad and he gets into an accident and he is a police officer, Rick- Johns police friend. The setting is the hospital, Busby's house, and the road, and the school halls and classrooms, the time was 1979, the weather conditions are sunny and rainy. The antagonist is the shooter, The protagonist is The family. The exposition is Cylin,Erik,Shawn,Polly,Kelly,John, Rick, and the friends, the hospital,,the road, and the Busby's house Cylin,Erik,Shawn,Polly,Kelly,John, Rick, the hospital. The rising action is when John gets out of the hospital and people around him are afraid that the shooter will come after him again so they have to be guarded 24-7 and even the kids when they go to school or wherever the family goes. The climax is when they cant contact their family or friends, and the kids cant go to their Friend's house's. The falling action is when they cant play outside and they get tired of being guarded everywhere they go so they made a family decision. The resolution is when they move to different country and live a completely different and new life and no one found them but they still had to guard them sometimes, they moved after a couple months. The conflict of this book is when they got back from the hospital after what happened to John and it was just a matter of time till the shooter would come back again for Johna so all the family had to be guarded, even the kids when they went to school and they couldn't play outside or go to their Friend's house, and it's man vs. society.

The tone of this book is afraid, question tone, a little happy and sad. The mood of this book is happy, sad ,afraid and, and weird. The theme of  this book is always care about the people around you. The moral of this book is to always treat people nice and and care about the people around you. The point of view is 1st person.  The pattern of organization is compare and contrast. The authors purpose is to tell a life story. The authors perspective is from John and Cylin.

I liked the book because it was so interesting and it makes you never want to stop reading because your always in action. some of the parts i didn't like because there was a lot of blood and there was some bad words.

I would rate this book 8/10 because i loved the book and i would recommend this book to my friends and i think they will like it, i know that form now on i will read any book those 2 authors publish because this book keeps you in action.

Readers Journal #12 The Year We Disappeared-By:Cylin Busby&John Busby-November 15,2011

Dear Mrs.Zrihen,

I just got halfway in the book THE YEAR WE DISAPPEARED By Cylin Busby&John Busby. I picked this book because i had to read a memoir and because it looked interesting. The significance of the book is to always be kind and respect your family because there the ones who look out for you. The two reading strategies i used before reading were i asked myself what do i understand from the cover and the synopsis, the second strategy is i predicted whats gonna happen form the cover and the synopsis. The two reading strategies i used during the time i was reading was i went back to some pages to understand more what was going on, the second strategy was i looked through the book for pictures and i saw a Cylin sitting on the ground and John's ID. The two strategies i used after reading were i asked myself what did i understand from the book...well understood that John got in a car accident, the second strategy i used was i looked through the book for some text features and new vocabulary.

The genre of this book is Memoir. The characters are Cylin-the little 9 year old girl, Erik cylin's brother, Shawn- Cylin's and Erik's brother, Kelly- The 3 kids Babysitter, Polly-The kids Mom, John- The dad and he gets into an accident and he is a police officer, Rick- Johns police friend. The setting is the hospital, Busby's house, and the road, the time was 1979, the weather conditions are sunny and rainy. The exposition is Cylin,Erik,Shawn,Polly,Kelly,John, Rick, the hospital,,the road, and the Busby's house. The rising action is when john gets shot and Rick comes to the wife-Polly and the kids and he tells them its an accident and Polly and rick left the house to the hospital and then Kelly stayed with Shawn, Erik and Cylin and then they heard a guy coming out of a car with a gun and he is coming to their house. The climax is they went to the kitchen and then he came closer with his foot steps and then they went to their moms closet,a and then they went to the Attic. The falling action is Polly and Rick got to the hospital John said it wasn't an accident someone shot him. And there is no resolution yet like Polly and Rick went with John in the ambulance, and there going to the hospital in Massachusetts where there are the best doctors. The conflict of the part that i read was that when john got into an accident Polly and rick had to leave and Kelly,Cylin, Shawn, and Erik stayed in the house and they heard someone with a gun standing in front of their house, and its man vs. society.

The tone is scared, whispering, excited, and strong. The mood of this book is upset, strong, excited and scared. The theme of this book is to always respect and be kind to your family. The moral of this book is not to disrespect your parents or family. The point of view is 1st person and 3rd person. The pattern of organization is compare and contrast. The authors purpose is to tell or share a story. The authors perspective is compare and contrast and its objective and bias.

I think the part i read was really nice because there is so much action that you want to read more and never stop because you want to find out whats gonna happen next and i like this kinds of book, i think i have some similarities with Cylin because i also like to go to movies with my dad and like hang out with him.

I would rate this book 8/10 because it was nice but they also cursed in some of the pages, john cursed when he said what happened in the accident. but i really like the book because its action and you just cant stop reading because you want to find out whats next.

Readers Journal #11 The Lottery-By:Shirley Jackson-November 8,2011

Dear Mrs.Zrihen,

I just finished reading THE LOTTERY By Shirley Jackson. I picked this book because i had to read a short story for this week and  because short stories are short. The significance of the book is to be friendly and don't let something get in your way. The two reading strategies that i made before reading were i made predictions i predicted that its about these friends that find a lottery ticket, the second strategy is i asked myself what do  i already know about his book well i knew that there is a movie called "The Lottery Ticket". The two reading strategies i used during the time i read were i went back to page 2 and 3 to understand and learn more about the character's like Mr.Summers and Mr. Martin, the second strategy i used was i looked through some vocabulary like the words Jovial, and Dellacroy. The two reading strategies i used after i was done reading the book were i asked myself what did i understand form the story well, i understanded that its about 2 friends that found a lottery ticket and there was no school, the second strategy was i asked myself also what did i learn from the book, well i learned that you cant let friendship get in your way for money, because friends are always gonna be there for you if they are true friends.

The genre of this book is short stories. The characters are Mr.Summers -Teacher, Baxter-Bobby's and Martin's friend,Bobby-Bexter and Martins friend, and Martin-Baxter and Bobby's friend, and they are flat and round. The setting of the story is basketball field, streets and the friends house. The exposition of this book is Mr.Summers,Baxter,Martin, and Bobby the places are basketball field, streets and friends house. The rising action is when the 3 friends find a lottery ticket and they win but they cant decide who gets the money because they say that each one of them found it and that it doesn't belong to the other. The climax of the story is that they didn't talk to each other for 3 months until Martin told Bobby and Baxer "I'm sorry". The falling action was they became friends again but they didn't know what to do with Lottery ticket. The resolution is that they split the money and the money that couldn't be split the gave it to their parents.  The conflict was the 3 friends found a lottery ticket they couldn't decide who will get it and how to split the money.

The tone of this book is Happy, excited, and mad. The mood of this book is happy, excited, mad, and sad. The theme of this story is to always put your friendship first because friends are always there for you if they are true Friends for the rest of your life. The moral of this book is to always put your friendship first and don't fight over something that is silly like money. The point of view is 1st person and 3rd person. The pattern of organization is compare and contrast. The authors purpose is to entertain and to tell a story. The authors perspective is to never fight about something that you can figure it out as a group.

My opinion about this story is that its really nice and has lots of details along with the characters. i don't think i have any similarities with the characters of the story because they are really different then me. if i were in there position i would just split the money evenly and if there was left over i would ask my friends if i could take it.

My rate about this book is 7/10 because the movie was a little boring and some of the story didn't make sense, but it was a nice calm story.i wouldn't recommend this to my friends because it s kind of a boring story and they wont like it.

                     Sincerely,

Readers Journal #10 High Tide In Hawaii-By:Mary Pope Osborne- November 1,2011

Dear Mrs.Zrihen,

I just finished reading the book HIGH TIDE IN HAWAII By Mary Pope Osborne. i picked this book because it seemed nice and because i had to read a short story. the significance of the book is to be friendly and not to be shy like if you need help.the two reading strategies i used before reading was i made predictions and the second one was asked myself what do i already know about his book well i knew the characters of the book are Annie and jack.the two strategies i used during the time  read was i went back to understand more of the book, the second strategy was i looked through for some words i didn't know. the two reading strategies i used after the time i read was i looked through some text features in the book, the second strategy was i asked myself what did i learn from the book.

The genre of this book is short story. The characters of the book are Annie, Jack, Kama,Boka, and Morgan. The setting of the book Hawaii, Jack and Annie's house and the ship and the weather conditions are are sunny and lots of waves. The exposition is Jack, Annie,Kama,Boka, and Morgan and also the places are Jack and Annie's house ,the ship, and Hawaii. The rising action is when they need help building a ship to get home. The  climax of this story is that they found two kids Kama and Boka and become friends with them. The falling action is that Kama and Boka teach Annie and Jack how to surf and sail a boat. The Resolution is that Annie and Jack build the ship and sail back home and have fun during the time where they went to Hawaii they danced and ate good food. The tone of this book is calm and excited and happy. The mood of this book is happy and calm. The theme of the book is to be friendly and helpful. The moral of this book is always be friendly and helpful. The point of view is 3rd person and 1st person. The pattern of organization is compare and contrast. The Authors Purpose is to entertain. The Authors Perspective is to let people know how good it is to be friendly and its objective and bias.

I think this book is alright its not the best one i read but its OK but i don't think its for my grade level. I wouldn't recommend this to my friends because i know they wont like it and its not for them. the book was kind of boring because it was about waves and how they were friendly with the people they met.I think I'm similar to Annie kind of  because she likes to jump around and have fun, and i like to have fun too and try new stuff like surfing.

My rate for the book is 6/10 because i didn't like the book so much it was kind of boring and some of the pages didn't make sense even when i reread the pages.

Sincerely,
                 Noy Nahumi
