Readers Journal #17 Seriously... I'm Kidding-By:Ellen Degeneres- December,18,2011

Dear Mrs.Zrihen,

I just finished reading the book SERIOUSLY...IM KIDDING By Ellen Degeneres. I picked this book because i watch Ellen's show and she is really funny. The significance of the book is to be funny and not to always be serious. The 2 reading strategies i used before reading were i asked myself what do i already know about the book, well i knew eelen from her show, she is really funny and she entertains celebs and viewers, The second strategy i used was i predicted what was gonna happen, and i was right i said it was going to be super halerious. The 2 reading strategies i used during reading were i asked myself what did i understand so far, the second strategy i used was i skimmed and scanned the pictures, cover, and title page. The 2 reading strategies i used after i finished reading were i asked myself what did i understand from the book...welll i understood that life is suppose to be funny and to have fun and always laugh, the second strategy i used was i looked for some text features.

The genre of this book is Humor- which means a funny book. The characters are Ellen, her family, and celebreties. The setting is Ellens show set, and her house. The exposition is Ellen, her family, and celebreties and Ellens show set, and her house. The rising action..well there is no rising action because its a humor book, and there are no problems. The climax is when she talks what jokes she makes on her set and what she does to get ready. The falling action is when Ellen scares people on her set and she has so much fun interviewing celebs like Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, and Katy Perry. The resolution is to be always ahppy and always be funny and not always to be serious. The conflict of the book is Man vs. Man.

The tone of the book is funny and happy. The mood is funny and happy. The theme is to always laugh. The moral is to always to have a good and funny life. The point of view is 1st person and 3rd person. The paettern of organization is to compare and contrast. The authors purpose is to entertain. The authors perspective is the authors.

I think this book is really good and funny i would reccommende it to my friends because i think they would enjoy it as much as i did. This book was reccomended to me, at first i though it wasnt going to tbe funny and now after i read it, its so halerious. I rate this book 10/10 because its such an amazing book.

Readers Journal #16 Eclipse-By:Stephenie Meyer-December 13,2011

Dear Mrs.Zrihen,

I just finished reading the book ECLIPSE by Stephenie Meyer. I picked this book because i had to read fantasy and also because it was recommended to me and it seemed like a good book. The significance of the book, well there isn't really a significance because its a story, but i think its to respect your parents, thought it was a good book. The 2 reading strategies i used before reading was i skimmed and scanned, i skimmed and scanned the title page and the synopsis, the second strategy i used was i asked myself what do i already know about the book, well i knew that there is a girl named Bella and she has 2 friends Jacob and Edward. The 2 reading strategies i used during the time i was reading was went back to chapters 16 and 17 to understand what was going on more, the second strategy was the second strategy i used was i looked at the title page and asked myself if it made sense to me but but it didn't because on the title page they show like leaves or grass and it doesn't make sense to the book. The 2 reading strategies i used after reading was i asked myself what did i understand from the book, the second strategy i used was i looked through the book for text features.

The genre is fantasy. The characters are Edward-Bella's boyfriend, Bella-main character, Jacob-Bella's best friend, Charlie-Bella's dad, Alice-Edward's sister, Edward's mom, Bella's mom. The setting is School, Edward's house, and Bella's House and the weather condition is sunny. The exposition is Edward, Bella, Jacob, Charlie, Alice, Edward's mom, Bella's mom, School, Edward's house, and Bella's House. The rising action is when Edward doesn't want Bella to go see Jacob and be friends with him he thinks that he will try to still her, and Edward doesn't like Jacob because Edward is a vampire and Jacob is a werewolf. The climax is when charlie tells Bella to go see Jacob because he was her friend and helped her since day one she came to town. The falling action is when Bella goes to see Jacob anyway and he tells her that he kind of missed her. The resolution is when Edward accepts that she went to See Jacob, so he deals with it.
The conflict is Edward doesn't want Bella to go see Jacob and be friends with him he thinks that he will try to still her, and Edward doesn't like Jacob because Edward is a vampire and Jacob is a werewolf, and the conflict type is Man.Vs.Society.

The tone is excited, disappointed happy and serious. The mood is excited, sad, and happy. The theme is to be respectful. The moral is to always be kind and follow yourself. The point of view is 3rd person and 1st person. The pattern of organization is compare and contrast. The authors purpose is to entertain and persuade. The authors perspective is Bella, Edward, and Jacob.

I think the book was a really good book but it was too long and it was a little challenging, i would recommend it to my friends.
I would rate this book 8/10.

Current Event Journal #3 -December,9,2011

Title:Animal shelter's behavior experts face life and death decisions for animals

Author:John Owens

Source: The Miami Hearld

The topic of the article is: the animal shelter is being mean to the animals, and the animals might die.

The main idea of the article is:is that the animals shelter is abusing the animals. (implied/stated)

The author’s purpose for writing this article is to: inform and persuade.

The author’s perspective in this article is objective/subjective (biased) because the author gives his own opinions about what he thinks about it.

The pattern of organization of the article is: compare and contrast.

The reason the author chose this pattern for the article is: to compare what would happen if the animal shelter wouldn't be mean to the animals.

The text features included in the article are: Death, Animals, Animal Shelter.

1.death helps by nothing, its not nice to kill the animals.

2.animals helps by making the environment.

3.animal shelter helps by animals.

This article is about (a summary in your own words):animal shelters being mean to animals, and abusing them, so they are thinking to end life for the animals, to kill them, i think its not nice.

The significance (importance) of this article is: to be kind and help the environment because animals are the ones that help us.

What I learned from this article is : to be kind and respectful to what we have.

What I liked about this article : is when they say why they want to kill the animals.

What I did not like about it : when they want to kill them.

Who should read this article and why: the adults should because its for them, but also teens because they might like it,

This article reminds me of (text-to-self): when my friend had a dog that his owners before abused her animal.

(text-to-text): a book i read about abusing animals and dogs, and why they do it.

(text-to-world) : when i saw a movie about people being mean to animals.
