Readers Journal #14 The Secret Identity Of Devon Delaney-By:Lauren Barnholdt-November 28,2011

Dear Mrs.Zrihen,

I just finished reading the book THE SECRET IDENTITY OF DEVON DELANEY By Lauren Barnholdt. I picket this book because one of my friends recommended this book to me and it seemed nice. The significance of the book is to never lie, you always have to be truthful to your friends and family. The two strategies i used before reading was i asked myself what do i already know from the book, well i knew from the cover and the synopsis that its about being truthful because i read that a girl name Devon lied to her whole school, the second strategy i used was i predicted whats gonna happen in the end, well most books end with good endings so i thought everyone forgives her. The two reading strategies i used during reading was i went back to some pages to see how many lies she made and made up, the second strategy was i looked at the cover and i thought to myself that it didn't really made sense to the story because it shows her rejection what she wears so  at first i thought its like about a popular girl who being mean to everyone. The two reading strategies i used after reading was i asked myself what did i understand from the book, well i understood that its about not lieing and to always stay truthful, the second strategy i used was i looked through the book for some text features and new vocabulary.

The genre of this book is realistic fiction. The characters of this book is Jared-her "boyfriend", Lexi- her best friend, Devon- the main girl. Devon's mom , Devon's dad, Lexi and Jared's friends. The setting is Devon's house, the school, and Jared's house. The exposition is Devon, Lexi, Jared, the mom and dad, and Jared's Friends also the place is the school, Devon's and Jared's house. The rising action is when Devon lies to Lexi in the summer because she met her while she was at her grandmas and Devon told her that she is so popular at her hometown and she is the popularist kid at school, and then Lexi surprised Devon by coming to her new school and then Devon was like to herself OH NOOO!!! SHES GONNA FIND OUT THE TRUTH. The climax is that Lexi started getting weird about stuff like she didn't understand why is Devon acting like this weird. The falling action is when Lexi and the rest found out about everything , every single lie, so she got so mad. The resolution is when she forgives her and also everyone else and they promised each other never to lie again. The conflict of this book is when Devon lies about so much stuff to her best friend Lexi-character vs. society.

The tone of this book is scared , happy, and sad. The mood is happy, disappointed, and scared. The theme of this book is not to lie, and to be truthful to everyone around you. The moral of this book to never lie and to be truthful. The point of view is 1st person and 3rd person. The pattern of organization is compare and contrast. The authors perspective is the authors, and Devon's. The authors purpose is to entertain.

I think this book was okay, some of the chapters were really boring but i kind of like it because it was a little entertaining.I rate this book 6/10 because it was kind of boring and i didn't like it much. i wouldn't recommend this to any of my friends because i know they will think it's boring.I don't have any similarities with the characters because they are really different from me.

The significance of the book is to always be kind and respect your family because there the ones who care about you and don't want you your to get hurt. The two reading strategies i used before reading were i asked myself what do i understand from the cover and the synopsis i understanded that because someone shot John it would be just a matter of time till the shooter would come after John again so they had to stop contact friends and family, the second strategy is i predicted whats gonna happen from the cover and the synopsis, like i thought they got kidnapped from someone and couldn't see their family again till someone found them but my prediction was wrong. The two reading strategies i used during the time i was reading was i went back to some pages to understand more what was going on i went to Johns prospective chapter to understood what he felt that time, the second strategy was i looked through the book for pictures and i saw a Cylin sitting on the ground and John's ID. The two strategies i used after reading were i asked myself what did i understand from the book...well understood that John got out of the hospital and had to stop contact family and friends and was always guarded 24-7 and after a couple of months they had to disappears and move, the second strategy i used was i looked through the book for some text features and new vocabulary.

The rising action is when John gets out of the hospital and people around him are afraid that the shooter will come after him again so they have to be guarded 24-7 and even the kids when they go to school or wherever the family goes. The climax is when they cant contact their family or friends, and the kids cant go to their Friend's house's. The falling action is when they cant play outside and they get tired of being guarded everywhere they go so they made a family decision. The resolution is when they move to different country and live a completely different and new life and no one found them but they still had to guard them sometimes, they moved after a couple months. The conflict of this book is when they got back from the hospital after what happened to John and it was just a matter of time till the shooter would come back again for Johna so all the family had to be guarded, even the kids when they went to school and they couldn't play outside or go to their Friend's house, and it's man vs. society.

The tone of this book is afraid, question tone, a little happy and sad. The mood of this book is happy, sad ,afraid and, and weird. The theme of  this book is always care about the people around you. The moral of this book is to always treat people nice and and care about the people around you. The point of view is 1st person.  The pattern of organization is compare and contrast. Readers Journal #12 The Year We Disappeared-By:Cylin Busby&John Busby-November 15,2011

Dear Mrs.Zrihen,

I just got halfway in the book THE YEAR WE DISAPPEARED By Cylin Busby&John Busby. I picked this book because i had to read a memoir and because it looked interesting. The significance of the book is to always be kind and respect your family because there the ones who look out for you. The two reading strategies i used before reading were i asked myself what do i understand from the cover and the synopsis, the second strategy is i predicted whats gonna happen form the cover and the synopsis. The two reading strategies i used during the time i was reading was i went back to some pages to understand more what was going on, the second strategy was i looked through the book for pictures and i saw a Cylin sitting on the ground and John's ID. The two strategies i used after reading were i asked myself what did i understand from the book...well understood that John got in a car accident, the second strategy i used was i looked through the book for some text features and new vocabulary.

The genre of this book is Memoir. The characters are Cylin-the little 9 year old girl, Erik cylin's brother, Shawn- Cylin's and Erik's brother, Kelly- The 3 kids Babysitter, Polly-The kids Mom, John- The dad and he gets into an accident and he is a police officer, Rick- Johns police friend. The setting is the hospital, Busby's house, and the road, the time was 1979, the weather conditions are sunny and rainy. The exposition is Cylin,Erik,Shawn,Polly,Kelly,John, Rick, the hospital,,the road, and the Busby's house. The rising action is when john gets shot and Rick comes to the wife-Polly and the kids and he tells them its an accident and Polly and rick left the house to the hospital and then Kelly stayed with Shawn, Erik and Cylin and then they heard a guy coming out of a car with a gun and he is coming to their house. The climax is they went to the kitchen and then he came closer with his foot steps and then they went to their moms closet,a and then they went to the Attic. The falling action is Polly and Rick got to the hospital John said it wasn't an accident someone shot him. And there is no resolution yet like Polly and Rick went with John in the ambulance, and there going to the hospital in Massachusetts where there are the best doctors. The conflict of the part that i read was that when john got into an accident Polly and rick had to leave and Kelly,Cylin, Shawn, and Erik stayed in the house and they heard someone with a gun standing in front of their house, and its man vs. society.

The tone is scared, whispering, excited, and strong. The mood of this book is upset, strong, excited and scared. The theme of this book is to always respect and be kind to your family. The moral of this book is not to disrespect your parents or family. The point of view is 1st person and 3rd person. The pattern of organization is compare and contrast. The authors purpose is to tell or share a story. The authors perspective is compare and contrast and its objective and bias.

I think the part i read was really nice because there is so much action that you want to read more and never stop because you want to find out whats gonna happen next and i like this kinds of book, i think i have some similarities with Cylin because i also like to go to movies with my dad and like hang out with him.

I would rate this book 8/10 because it was nice but they also cursed in some of the pages, john cursed when he said what happened in the accident. but i really like the book because its action and you just cant stop reading because you want to find out whats next.

Readers Journal #11 The Lottery-By:Shirley Jackson-November 8,2011

Dear Mrs.Zrihen,

I just finished reading THE LOTTERY By Shirley Jackson. I picked this book because i had to read a short story for this week and  because short stories are short. The significance of the book is to be friendly and don't let something get in your way. The two reading strategies that i made before reading were i made predictions i predicted that its about these friends that find a lottery ticket, the second strategy is i asked myself what do  i already know about his book well i knew that there is a movie called "The Lottery Ticket". The two reading strategies i used during the time i read were i went back to page 2 and 3 to understand and learn more about the character's like Mr.Summers and Mr. Martin, the second strategy i used was i looked through some vocabulary like the words Jovial, and Dellacroy. The two reading strategies i used after i was done reading the book were i asked myself what did i understand form the story well, i understanded that its about 2 friends that found a lottery ticket and there was no school, the second strategy was i asked myself also what did i learn from the book, well i learned that you cant let friendship get in your way for money, because friends are always gonna be there for you if they are true friends.

The genre of this book is short stories. The characters are Mr.Summers -Teacher, Baxter-Bobby's and Martin's friend,Bobby-Bexter and Martins friend, and Martin-Baxter and Bobby's friend, and they are flat and round. The setting of the story is basketball field, streets and the friends house. The exposition of this book is Mr.Summers,Baxter,Martin, and Bobby the places are basketball field, streets and friends house. The rising action is when the 3 friends find a lottery ticket and they win but they cant decide who gets the money because they say that each one of them found it and that it doesn't belong to the other. The climax of the story is that they didn't talk to each other for 3 months until Martin told Bobby and Baxer "I'm sorry". The falling action was they became friends again but they didn't know what to do with Lottery ticket. The resolution is that they split the money and the money that couldn't be split the gave it to their parents.  The conflict was the 3 friends found a lottery ticket they couldn't decide who will get it and how to split the money.

The tone of this book is Happy, excited, and mad. The mood of this book is happy, excited, mad, and sad. The theme of this story is to always put your friendship first because friends are always there for you if they are true Friends for the rest of your life. The moral of this book is to always put your friendship first and don't fight over something that is silly like money. The point of view is 1st person and 3rd person. The pattern of organization is compare and contrast. The authors purpose is to entertain and to tell a story. The authors perspective is to never fight about something that you can figure it out as a group.

My opinion about this story is that its really nice and has lots of details along with the characters. i don't think i have any similarities with the characters of the story because they are really different then me. if i were in there position i would just split the money evenly and if there was left over i would ask my friends if i could take it.

My rate about this book is 7/10 because the movie was a little boring and some of the story didn't make sense, but it was a nice calm story.i wouldn't recommend this to my friends because it s kind of a boring story and they wont like it.

This article is about (a summary in your own words):what android did to apple Steve Jobs says they stolid ideas and because of their androids they sold less iPhone's  Steve said he will destroy android.

The significance (importance) of this article is: its not nice to steel ideas of apple like they need to make up their own ideas.

What I learned from this article is: its not nice to steel ideas.

What I liked about this article: is when Steve says ill destroy android till the last minute i breathe.

What I did not like about it:when android stilled apples ideas.

Who should read this article and why: everyone should to inform other people what android did and its not nice.

This article reminds me of (text-to-self): when i stole and idea from a TV show.

(text-to-text): the book i read that was similar was Justin Bieber.

(text-to-world) :when my friend stole an idea from me.

Readers Journal #9 Twilight- By: Stephenie Meyer- October,25,2011

Dear Mrs.Zrihen,

Today I read TWILIGHT By Stephenie Meyer. I picked this book because i haven't seen the movie yet and the book has more details. The significance of this book is to like never be shy like try to be friendly like if you go to a new school. The two reading strategies i used before reading were i skimmed and scanned the title page, the cover, the back cover, and the pictures, The second strategy i used was i predicted whats gonna happen from what i already know so i know that its about a 3 characters named Bella, Edward, and Jacob and that's its about a a new girl who's coming to a new school. The two reading strategies i used during the time i read  is i went back to some pages to see if it all made sense together, the second strategy i used was i looked through some pages to see if there were new words to me that i didn't know. The two reading strategies i used after reading were i was i asked myself what did i understand well i understanded that there is a girl who met this guy named Edward and he is a vampire and she also met this guy named Jacob who is a werewolf, The second reading strategy was i looked through the book for some text features like text boxes and pictures.

The genre of this book is fantasy. The characters are Bella-The main character, Edward- the vampire that try's to be Bella boyfriend,Jacob- The werewolf that Bella meets, Charlie- Bella's dad, Eric- the first friend she meets at the first day of school and i think the antagonist is Edward and the protagonist is  Jacob and there all flat and motive. The setting is at school, Bella's home, and the road and the weather conditions is rainy and cold. The exposition is Bella, Edward, Jacob,Charlie, and Eric and Bella's school, road, and home. The rising action is when Bella goes in to a new school and she doesn't know anyone. The climax is when Bella meets a guy named Eric and another 4 people and he helps her around the school. The falling action is when Bella meats a vampire name Edward and a werewolf named Jacob. The resolution is when Edward wants to be Bella's boyfriend and i think she doesn't want to. The conflict of the book is that Edward is trying to be Bella's boyfriend but i don't think she wants to be his girlfriend.

The tone of the book is excited and clam. The mood of this book is excited and and calm and happy. The theme is to be friendly and don't be shy. There isn't really a moral cause its fantasy. the pint of view is 1st person. The patterns of organization is compare and contrast. The authors purpose is to entertain. The authors perspective  is that its fantasy and people will enjoy the story.

I think the book was good it gave much more details then the movie and i like stories that like are made up i think its really nice that on her first day of school people were trying to be nice to her. My rate is 8/10 because it was nice but they said about the vampire to much details.

Sincerely,
               Noy Nahumi

Readers Journal #8 Justin Bieber Oh Baby! - By: Mary Boone- October,18,2011

Dear Mrs. Zrihen,

I just finished reading JUSTIN BIEBER OH BABY! part 3 By Mary Boone. I picked this book because Justin Bieber is an inspiration to me also his movie Never Say Never. The significance of this book is that people should mine their own business and don't judge people (about this part). The two reading strategies i used before reading were i skimmed and scanned the title and the pictures, the second strategy was i predicted what i think is gonna happen in part 3 i predicted that its going to be about him and Selena Gomez and about their relationship. The two reading strategies i used during the time i was reading were i went back to part 1 and part 2 to see if they all make sense with part 3, the second strategy i used was i looked through some pages to see if there any facts i didn't know about Justin Bieber like i didn't know that his grampa's name is Barry, and that his mom was always a single parent. The two reading strategies i used after i was done reading the part was i understanded form part 3 well i understanded that you have to stay out of businesses that aren't yours and that paparazzi may look cool to you and you want them to take pictures of you but they don even give you privacy if you want,The second strategy was i  also  looked through some page for text features like for pictures of him that i didn't recognize or photos i like more then others.

The genre of this book is biography but i chose it for free choice. The characters are Justin Bieber- the main character and the singer/pop star, and Selena Gomez- Justin's girlfriend and she is an actress/singer and their flat and round. The setting is his concerts and in the concert where he makes her his OLLG (one less lonely girl), also in the beach and where they go like awards shows and interviews. The Exposition is Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez Justin's concerts and when Justin makes Selena his OLLG. The rising action is that Justin's fans started sending death threats to Selena on Twitter because he was dating her  and alot of beliebers are crazy fans so they say I'm gonna merry Justin Biebers or I'm going to be Mrs.Bieber. The Climax is when Justin tells his fans that he and Selena are just friends and that they should stop sending death threats. The falling action is that when Selena had an interview with MTV and told them that it she doesn't let it get to her and that nothing will happen to her. The resolution i that beliebers stopped sending death threats. The conflict of this book was when beliebers sended death threats to Selena in Twitter.

The tone of this book is kind of mad, and happy. The mood is happy and a little mad. The theme of the book part 3 is to mind your own business. The moral of this book part 3 is to mind your own business and just don't get in people's life. The point of view is first person. The patterns of organization is to compare and contrast. My favorite part of the book when he told beliebers to calm down. My opinion about this part is that he is right and that Justin is really inspiring to me.

Me and Justin alike cause we are friendly but we are also very different because he is a singer and a pop star and I'm just a regular girl. My rate is 10/10.

Sincerely,
                                                        Noy Nahumi

The Climax of the story is when she touches a spike ball a day before she turned 16 and she fell into deep sleep. The falling action is A boy named Jake and his friends went to a field trip with his class and they run away from the class and he sees the girl Talia and he fell in love with her. The Resolution is that The boy Jake falls in love with Talia and he kisses her and then Talia and the rest of the castle wake up and they realize they been sleeping for centuries so then Talia celebrates her 16th birthday and everything turns out good. The Conflict is when Talia and the entire castle falls into a deep sleep and they can only wake up if Talia gets kissed by her true love.

The significance is that its really cool reading about a person who tyred to help a girl live her dream like having a quincenera. The 2 reading strategies i used before reading are I asked myself what do i already know about this book and The next thing i did is Skimming&scanning i looked through to see the title the pictures the back and all the text features. During the time i read i went back and reread some pages to understand what I'm reading and looked through some pages to see if there were words i didn't understand. The 2 reading strategies i used after reading is i asked myself what i read and what i understand and looked through the text features to see them.

The genre of this book is realistic fiction because its like real life but not really. The characters Are Alicia, Carmen,Jaymie, Gaz and Sarita. The setting is Sarita's quincenera and Alicia's house and the office. The time is during the summer. The weather condition is sunny and hot. The exposition is Alicia Carmen Jaymie Gaz and Sarita and its Sarita's quince, Alicia's house and the office. The rising action is Alicia wants to make a quince for Alicia but her mom doesn't want her to.  The climax is that Alicia doesn't listen to her mom and start working on the quince. The falling action is Alicia is doing all she can to make Sarita's dream come true. The resolution is that Sarita gets to have a quince and it all goes well and Alicia and her friends opened a business of helping quicenears be awesome and she is now really really good friends with Gaz. Reading Journal #1 Amigas Fifteen Candles By Veronica Chambers-August,31,2011

    Dear Mrs.Zrihen,

I am currently reading AMIGAS FIFTEEN CANDLES By Veronica Chambers. I picked this book because it seemed nice and and i like realistic fiction books. The significance of the book is to just have fun and live your life in a fun way. Before reading i looked in the book to see if i knew the book and what was my purpose to read this book like why i want to read this book. During the time i read at home i went back and reread some pages to understand what the book means and understand what I'm reading i also looked through the pages to see if there is words i don't know, these are my reading strategies there was no after Reading strategies because i didn't finish reading the book.

The genre is realistic fiction because it just like real life but its not it gives you examples of real life and real places like Miami and California. The characters are Alicia which is the main character and her friends are Sarita, and Gaz. The Setting is Miami, Florida and LA,California the time is during the day and the weather conditions are Sunny. The Exposition is Alicia, Gaz, Sarita, Miami and LA, The Rising Action is when the summer is ending and Alicia is trying to find a job without her dad helping because when her dad is helping people treat her nicer and better because He is The mayor of the City, The Climax is when she is trying to look for a job, the falling action is when she finds a job and the boss Lori is treating her bad, The Resolution is when she finds a job and she meets a friend There named Sarita and shes having fun with her. The conflict is when she is trying to look for a job when the summer started but she doesn't want her dad to help her because then people will treat her different like because her dad is a mayor and she wants her dad to stay out and its Self vs. Self.

The Tone is Exciting and Happy. The mood is Happy and excited. The theme is Always Be Independent. The moral is to like always be independent and don't follow someone else. The point of view is 1st person. patterns of organization is compare and contrast. The Authors Purpose is to tell the reader is to always believe you can do something. The authors Prospecting is Objective and bias. The only figurative language word i found was quinceneras.

My response starter is that this girl named Alicia and her friend Gaz just went out to summer. So Alicia said I'm gonna be bored so i Will go and find a job but she told her dad not to help her cause her dad is the mayor and people are gonna treat her nicer and better and she wants to get treat like a regular person. but then she got a job at a office and there she met Sarita and Lori her boss made her get Lori coffee every 3 hours and there was nothing to do so she hung out with Sarita in the office.

My Opinion about this book is that its a really good book because it gives alot of realistic details and i love realistic fiction books, i would recommend this book to my friends because i think they will like it.

I rate this book 5 star because i love those kind of books so i am rating this a high star number.

                         Sincerely,
                                            Noy Nahumi
