I just finished reading THE LOTTERY By Shirley Jackson. I picked this book because i had to read a short story for this week and because short stories are short. The significance of the book is to be friendly and don't let something get in your way. The two reading strategies that i made before reading were i made predictions i predicted that its about these friends that find a lottery ticket, the second strategy is i asked myself what do i already know about his book well i knew that there is a movie called "The Lottery Ticket". The two reading strategies i used during the time i read were i went back to page 2 and 3 to understand and learn more about the character's like Mr.Summers and Mr. Martin, the second strategy i used was i looked through some vocabulary like the words Jovial, and Dellacroy. The two reading strategies i used after i was done reading the book were i asked myself what did i understand form the story well, i understanded that its about 2 friends that found a lottery ticket and there was no school, the second strategy was i asked myself also what did i learn from the book, well i learned that you cant let friendship get in your way for money, because friends are always gonna be there for you if they are true friends.
The genre of this book is short stories. The characters are Mr.Summers -Teacher, Baxter-Bobby's and Martin's friend,Bobby-Bexter and Martins friend, and Martin-Baxter and Bobby's friend, and they are flat and round. The setting of the story is basketball field, streets and the friends house. The exposition of this book is Mr.Summers,Baxter,Martin, and Bobby the places are basketball field, streets and friends house. The rising action is when the 3 friends find a lottery ticket and they win but they cant decide who gets the money because they say that each one of them found it and that it doesn't belong to the other. The climax of the story is that they didn't talk to each other for 3 months until Martin told Bobby and Baxer "I'm sorry". The falling action was they became friends again but they didn't know what to do with Lottery ticket. The resolution is that they split the money and the money that couldn't be split the gave it to their parents. The conflict was the 3 friends found a lottery ticket they couldn't decide who will get it and how to split the money.
The tone of this book is Happy, excited, and mad. The mood of this book is happy, excited, mad, and sad. The theme of this story is to always put your friendship first because friends are always there for you if they are true Friends for the rest of your life. The moral of this book is to always put your friendship first and don't fight over something that is silly like money. The point of view is 1st person and 3rd person. The pattern of organization is compare and contrast. The authors purpose is to entertain and to tell a story. The authors perspective is to never fight about something that you can figure it out as a group.
My opinion about this story is that its really nice and has lots of details along with the characters. i don't think i have any similarities with the characters of the story because they are really different then me. if i were in there position i would just split the money evenly and if there was left over i would ask my friends if i could take it.
My rate about this book is 7/10 because the movie was a little boring and some of the story didn't make sense, but it was a nice calm story.i wouldn't recommend this to my friends because it s kind of a boring story and they wont like it.
Sincerely,
Noy Nahumi
